The final auction of the winter season saw mixed results given the high percentage of outsort and inferior types on offer. Prices of commercial combing types remained fully firm despite the Rand appreciating by 1.2% against the greenback.
The total quantity Cape mohair offered on auction for the winter season increased by 3% while the total increase for the year equated to nearly 4%. The Mohair South Africa market indicator for greasy mohair closed 5.9% higher in Rand terms compared to the final auction of 2024.
The past year can best be summarised as a year of cautious optimism, especially in South Africa and other emerging economies. While growth is present, volatility remains high and policy makers face a delicate balancing act between supporting growth, keeping inflation under control and managing debt.
SAMIL wishes all our colleagues, customers and suppliers a happy festive season and prosperous 2026. Thank you for your continued support and passion for mohair fibre!
