The final auction of the summer season was bigger than expected with approximately 170
tons on offer. While prices for all qualities increased gradually throughout the season, it was
the young goat market indicator that saw the most significant increase compared to the
prior year closing 20.6% higher in Rand terms. The season was also characterised by an
increase in the production of exceptionally fine super kid < 23 micron.
The total quantity on offer on the official auctions decreased by 90 tons (8.2%) compared to
the summer season of 2025. The main reason for the lower production is the extreme dry
conditions that occured in the Karoo during the period August to February which had an
adverse effect on the yield per animal. The above average rainfall of the past two months
will lead to a recovery in the natural ecosystem of this semi-arid region.
